Karl is the chief operating officer for Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) Asia and for Distribution globally. He is responsible for all operational aspects of the GSAM distribution channels globally and assists with business management and strategy for GSAM Asia Pacific Ex-Japan. Karl serves on the GSAM New Products Committee and is active in the firm’s diversity efforts as a member of the Asia Pacific Diversity Committee and as an MD ally for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Network.
Prior to his current role, Karl was co-treasurer of GSAM, where he was responsible for financing and liquidity risk management. He joined GSAM in 2005 as the chief operating officer of the Quantitative Resources Group. Karl joined Goldman Sachs in 2000 as a vice president in the Finance Division and was named managing director in 2007.
Earlier in his career, Karl was an executive director at CIBC World Markets from 1997 to 1999 and a senior vice president at Oppenheimer & Co. from 1991 to 1997.
Karl represents Goldman Sachs on the Asia Asset Management Group steering committee of the Asia Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. He is also a co-chairman of the International Partners Committee of the Asset Management Association of China.
Karl earned a BS in Finance from Bloomsburg University in 1991 and an MBA from New York University in 1997.
